Waiting on God’s Answer

Have you ever prayed asking God to help you with something? I know I have many, many, times.

When I was grocery shopping a couple of years ago, I got in a line that I thought would be a quick check-out. Then I saw the man ahead of me was struggling with food stamps. I thought I’d change lanes and felt that I was supposed to stay where I was. As his order was being finished I saw that the cashier had put several items aside. I told her to put them on my bill. She quickly rang them up. The man hadn’t heard me and started to walk away. I called out to him and he came back. I gave him the bags and told him to have a good day. He thanked me over and over again.

As I was driving home I thanked God for nudging me to stay in that line. It was awesome to be able to serve someone and know that it had been guided by God. There have been many times in my life where I have felt definite guidance and protection from God.

Assurance of God’s Eternal Protection

1     Hear my cry, O God;

Attend to my prayer.

2     From the end of the earth I will cry to You,

When my heart is overwhelmed;

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

3     For You have been a shelter for me,

A strong tower from the enemy.

4     I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;

I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.

5     For You, O God, have heard my vows;

You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

6     You will prolong the king’s life,

His years as many generations.

7     He shall abide before God forever.

Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him!

8     So I will sing praise to Your name forever,

That I may daily perform my vows.[1]

When you are overwhelmed, stop, ask God to help you. Be specific, also ask Him for peace. Then you need to wait and be still. It is in the quiet moments that you will hear His answer and guidance. He will protect you, and cover you with His wings. Remember to say prayers of thanksgiving to Him as well. Just like when our kids thank us for something, it makes us feel really good. I would  imagine that it makes God happy when we stop and thank Him too.
